Frequently Asked Questions

How long is a therapy session?

Sessions are typically 50 minutes duration.

How many sessions will I need?

This depends on the issue bringing you to therapy. I usually recommend a minimum of six sessions for you to experience progress, but can provide a better idea following your initial session.

How frequently should I attend?

Regular attendance is important to ensure you fully benefit. Weekly sessions are usually recommended and, when possible, the same time will be reserved for you each week.

What should I expect in the first session?

The aim of the initial session is for us to get to know each other and for me to learn, in more depth, what you hope to gain from therapy. You’ll leave this session with a clear plan of how I can help you and what that help will look like.

What are your hours?

Therapy sessions are available Monday - Saturday, between 9:30-17:30.

Do you prescribe medication?

I do not. Speak to your GP or a psychiatrist for any medication related queries.

Will my information remain confidential?

Anything said in the counselling room is completely confidential. The only exception to this is if a client seems to be at immediate risk of harming themselves or others. Any disclosure would be discussed with the client first.

Why to take a counseling or therapy session?

Therapy gives you the opportunity to talk about your thoughts and feelings and in doing so find solutions to problems or dilemmas you feel comfortable with. Many people find that just having the chance to speak freely with somebody who is not personally involved and is not going to make judgments or give opinions is very helpful. Working together with a psychologist allows you to look at your life in ways you may not have considered before and to gain insight and understanding.

This helps us establish if I am best suited for your current needs, based on my training, experience and specialisms. If I’m not, I will try my best to recommend an alternative therapist who is.
